
Mobil SHC Gear Series
The Mobil SHC™ Gear Series comprises synthetic industrial gear oils with outstanding performance, designed to provide excellent protection for gears and bearings, long oil life even under extremely demanding operating conditions, smooth equipment operation and improved customer productivity. These scientifically engineered synthetic oils are formulated from synthetic base oils with outstanding oxidative and thermal properties and excellent low-temperature fluidity. Their high viscosity index means less variation in viscosity with temperature change, allowing operation across wider temperature ranges and better cold start-up. Mobilgear SHC Gear Series lubricants are designed to provide excellent protection against conventional wear mechanisms such as frictional wear, and contain an advanced proprietary additive system that also provides a high level of resistance to micropitting fatigue. In addition, compared with conventional gear oil formulations, they offer the potential for better lubrication of gearbox bearings. Compared with conventional products, Mobilgear SHC Gear Series products provide outstanding rust and corrosion protection even in the presence of seawater contamination. They do not tend to clog fine filters even when wet, and offer excellent compatibility with ferrous and non-ferrous metals even at high temperatures. Mobil SHC Gear Series also shows superior compatibility with elastomers in static sealing tests, and offers superior EP properties that provide protection even under shock loading. The synthetic base oils used in the Mobil SHC Gear Series have inherently low internal friction, providing low fluid friction in the load zones of non-conforming surfaces such as gears and rolling-element bearings. Lower fluid friction results in lower operating temperatures and better gear efficiency.
Mobilgear SHC Gear lubricants are recommended for enclosed industrial gear drives with steel-on-steel contact, including helical and bevel gears. They are especially recommended for applications prone to micropitting, particularly heavily loaded gearboxes with case-hardened tooth metallurgy. They can also be used in gearbox applications that experience extreme low and/or high temperatures, and in applications where corrosion risk may be high.
